My friend’s little boy got caught in a rip current when we were at the beach together. She and I were watching him, and we didn’t even realize what was happening until a lifeguard swam out to him and brought him back to shore.

Fortunately, her son was wearing a life jacket at the time, but it definitely taught us all an important lesson. And so did the lifeguards– they were actually doing lifeguard training at the time so several of them came over and gave my friend and me and all of our kids a lesson in rip currents.

Now that I know how to spot them, I’m definitely going to be on the lookout! Articles like this help to refresh that lesson as well. Thanks for the info.
