Love this! The SEO company I write for is headquartered in Bend. I've done some work on local pieces for them (hiking in the area, etc.) and it seems like a fabulous place.

I'm in Richmond, VA, and much of what I love about this area is similar to what you've described. 2 hours from the beach, 2 hours from the mountains, a just-right small city, lots of adventure for outdoor enthusiasts, and (for me) lots of history!

It's so important to find a home in a place that you love. :-)
